Educator Finds Adventure
UNI Prepared Alumna for Life
Education is near and dear to Beth Primrose's heart. The 1966 alumna spent 30 years as a kindergarten teacher before retiring. Her late husband, Dean '63, taught business education for 30 years.
"UNI prepared me well for my kindergarten teaching. My classes got me into the classroom early on, and it still does that for its teacher education students," she says.
UNI also connected the Primroses with extraordinary teaching opportunities that took them far from the familiar Midwest.
"The UNI Placement Bureau helped us connect with the Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, Hawaii, where we taught for five years," recalls Beth. "What an adventure!"
"UNI is one of the outstanding teacher education institutions in America. I want high school students to seriously consider teaching as a career. The future of our younger generations depends on quality teachers."
Beth has made plans for the Beth and Dean Primrose Scholarship for Excellence to be established through a life insurance policy.
"Since Dean and I were both educators, this scholarship was a natural way to pay it forward," Beth says. "I would like students to know that someone cares about them and supports them in their preparation for their future teaching career."
Beth remains closely connected to her alma mater. In the fall of 2016, she took part in her Golden Graduate reunion. She is a former member of the Alumni Association Board and has volunteered in the UNI booth at the Iowa State Fair.
