"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
-John Quincy Adams
In Sammie's Memory
Cupid's arrow struck Eunice Prange and Sammie Dell at a Sadie Hawkins dance held in the Commons at UNI. They walked down the aisle in 1971 and were married for 25 years until Sammie's death in 1997.
Eunice honored her husband's memory by creating the Sammie L. Dell Memorial Endowed
Scholarship for minority students at UNI. She also made the university the owner of a life insurance policy to be added to the scholarship.
While Eunice died in June 2008, the couple's legacy continues. Eunice's thoughtful gift of scholarship has helped several students get a jump-start on their college education.
A native of Charles City, Iowa, Eunice graduated from UNI in 1971 with a degree in accounting. She earned her MBA in 1983 and began working at UNI in 1977. She served in several positions, including budget director, assistant vice president and interim vice president in the area of finance. At the time of her death, she held the position of assistant vice president-faculty and staff disability coordinator and MEMPHIS project manager.
Eunice was active in many community organizations, including the Cedar Falls Chapter of the American Association of University Women, KBBG Public Radio in Waterloo, the UNI Panther Scholarship Club and Girl Scouts of America, where she was a lifetime Girl Scout.
Eunice's strong Christian faith was reflected in her warm and friendly smile, her willingness to help, and her dedication to making the world a better place.
