The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Scholarships Build a Brighter Tomorrow

Lin Nikkel is a junior studying instrumental music education. When deciding where to go to college, Nikkel knew it was important to her to be in a space that would allow her to continue to learn and grow as a musician.

Nikkel is thankful for the support she receives through scholarships because it allows her to focus solely on her studies. This support has also allowed her to participate in activities that will open doors and better prepare her for the future.

Last spring, she had the opportunity to travel to Europe to study under conductors and play alongside other talented musicians from different cultures. She said it was an opportunity she will never forget and one that would not have been possible without the support of caring donors.

“Scholarships are the gifts that keep on giving,” Nikkel says. “They’ve aided me immensely in the short time I’ve been at UNI, but I also know that I will graduate without any debt.”

In October 2022, the UNI Foundation publicly launched Our Tomorrow: The Campaign for UNI. With a goal of raising $250 million by 2026, this fundraising campaign is the boldest, most ambitious ever undertaken at UNI. The Our Tomorrow campaign will invest in all areas of the university—every college, every student.

UNI has already seen the support of nearly 25,000 unique donors. As of Oct. 1, 2022, the Our Tomorrow campaign is 75% of the way to meeting the goal, having raised $187,573,231. It will take gifts of all sizes from alumni, donors, foundations and corporate partners to push us across the finish line.

Nikkel put it best saying, “Our Tomorrow is about the hope that one generation can give to another.”

UNI, along with its alumni and friends, are preparing students like Lin Nikkel for a brighter tomorrow. To learn more, contact Jane Halverson at (319) 273-4665 or jane.halverson@uni.edu.
